Victor H. Ellard

September 24, 1923 — February 27, 2015

Victor Hugo Ellard, Jr., 91, of Pittsboro, MS died Friday, Feb. 27, 2015 at Select Specialty Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He was born in Dawson, New Mexico on September 24, 1923, to Victor Hugo Ellard, Sr. and Ivy Lee Byars Ellard. He was a veteran of WW2, having served in the 8th Air Force of the Army Air Corps in England from 1943-1945. Vic had been a lifelong member of the Pittsboro United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Jerome Ellard (Helen) of Big Sandy, TX and Gregory Ellard (Theresa) of Windcrest, TX, eight grandchildren (Erin, Rory, Celina, Andrew, Theresa Marie, Angela, Kristopher, and Alan), eleven great-grandchildren (Raven, Piper, Michael, Brandon, Evan, Alex, Michael William, Daniel, Catie, Andrew James, and Brianna), a brother Bruce Ellard (Catherine) of Natchez, MS, nieces, nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sydnette, and his brother John. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

How to condense 91 years of experiences and impact on other people into a few lines? Vic was known and loved by family and friends all around the country. He enjoyed promoting and attending gatherings (small or large) of family and friends and loved each person well. He was a prolific letter writer, and had many stories, mostly funny, about growing up in Depression-era Mississippi. He maintained a keen interest in world and national affairs and passed on that interest to his sons. After a time as a civilian employee at Columbus Air Force Base, he moved to Mission, TX in deep south Texas in 1954 to work in the same capacity at Moore Air Base. Then a long career with Irrigation District 6 followed. Vic raised his family and lived in Texas for almost 30 years before moving back to Pittsboro. His passing leaves a void, but a full and unforgettable legacy of love.
