Following his brother's footsteps, he entered the San Antonio soap box derby in 1957 and 1958, getting second place both years and just missing the chance to go to Akron, Ohio for the nationals. This inspired his love of racing go-karts as well. His summers, his mother recalls, were often filled with fishing, and family trips to Rockport. After college, he enlisted in the Texas National Guard and then headed to Dallas, Texas to became a salesman, a trade he would honor the rest of his working days. He started with pots, pans and knives, and then sold medical supplies for over twenty years. In between, he had a stint as the general manager for Alamo Enterprises, a precursor to Home Depot and the like and owned at the time by the Wolff family. It was just before this stint that he married Terry Lynn Trainer on June 4, 1970. Later that yearthey would havea son, David Mason Hill II. He always worked hard to ensure his son had the best education and opportunities possible.Vic was a devoted father, husband, and loving son, dedicating his last years as the caretaker of his mother. To his friends, he was an endearing cut up, someone you couldn't help but love even when at odds with what he said. Perhaps this was because his generosity always shone through. He will be dearly missed.
