Wilber Lee Kniejski

Wilber L. (Bobby) Kniejski passed away on June 13, 2022, at 3:42 p.m. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jo Frances (Jody) Kniejski; parents, Corina Maria (Garza) Kniejski and Charlie Frank Kniejski; brother Charlie Edwin Kniejski; sister Virginia Kniejski Susil; and grandson John A. Martinez.

Bobby Kniejski lived a life that only we can imagine. He was an exceptional athlete at South San High School. Excelling in the sports of football and baseball, he was a force to be reckoned with. His speed on the football and baseball fields were unmatched as was his vibrant personality.

It was this personality that attracted a lovely young woman, his wife to be, Jody, in the cafeteria of South San High School.

They dated and married on September 12, 1958, and quickly started a family. By 1963, the Kniejskis were a family of six. The obligations of a large family never daunted Bobby. He rose to the challenge and was employed throughout the years by the Baptist Hospital, San Antonio College, Eagle Pass I.S.D., Texas Dept. of Labor and Standards, Bexar County, and the Texas Comptroller’s Office, where he stayed until his retirement in 1994.

Bobby enjoyed going on excursions to all parts of the United States with his family. Some of these trips included vacations to Big Bend, the Grand Canyon, the Smoky Mountains, and numerous trips to the beach at Port Aransas and Garner State Park. These memorable trips gave all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren a legacy of a love of the outdoors and traveling.

Bobby also enjoyed barbequing as did his father before him, as do his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren after him! Beef ribs, roast, sausage, and chicken along with his delicious potato salad, and apple pies were always on the menu. He recited his recipe for potato salad for you verbatim if you asked him to.

Bobby’s pastimes during and after he retired were also centered around local and state politics. He, like Jody, thoroughly enjoyed the strategizing, the coordination of campaign workers and community activists, and the implementation of detailed campaign strategies to get out the vote, which consumed and challenged him to no end.

After Jody became ill, Bobby kept busy by repairing and restoring things around his home. Being mechanically inclined, you would always find Bobby with tools in hand repairing door jams, electrical appliances, and dabbling in woodworking and plumbing. He was his son, Robert’s, inspiration for being a Mr. Fix It, as well as his daughters’, Paula, Cindy, and Tammy, inspiration for tackling any household repair or restoration with 100% confidence and skill.

Although Bobby could be blunt and shocking with his very pointed questions, this was his way of letting you know that he cared about you and your family. He would contribute to his grandchildren’s education with a generosity that would have made Jody proud.

Bobby will be dearly missed by his family. His loud voice and inquiring ways are now just a fond memory for us. We love you Bobby and hope that you have found Jody by now. Thank you for your love, your life, and all the things that you have taught us.

Mr. Kniejski is survived by his son Robert L. Kniejski and wife, Irma D. Hernandez; his daughter, Paula M. Kniejski; his daughter, Cynthia D. K. Mallory and husband, Frank Mallory; and, his daughter, Tammy K. Perlman and husband, David Perlman.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Serene Diaz, Morrhyah A. Martinez, Felicia A. Martinez, Miguel A. Martinez, Jessica M. Mirr, Lauren K. (Kate) Kniejski and husband Joshua R. Blair, Hilda (Hali) Stanley and husband, Cameron Stanley, Stefan Christopher H. Kniejski, and Brandon Joseph Mirr.

He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren,; Alexander Diaz, Adam Diaz, John Patrick Jackson, James Ryan Jackson, Myla Joliet Jackson, Finley Martinez, Corbin M. Stanley, and Theodore A. Blair.

Bobby is also survived by his brother, James Kniejski; and his sister, Linda Kniejski-Brown and husband, Danny Lee Brown.

He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
