I, William (Bill) W. Eustrom, age 75, San Antonio, TX, passed away on November 22, 2023 after going into my third bout with cancer.
I was born on February 23, 1948 in Boulder, CO. I was the first born of three outstanding sons of our loving parents Harvey “Bud” L. Eustrom and Kathleen “Kitty’ M. (Walker) Eustrom.
After I graduated from Aurora Central high school in 1966, I went on to study of art of beer drinking and partying at the University of Colorado (CU) in Boulder, Colorado. Since these subjects were not a recognized curriculum of CU and that my grade point was below in the norm in recognized subjects, I was not able to continue on the following year.
On February 27, 1968, I entered the US Army where I spent 23.5 years in the field of biomedical equipment maintenance. I retired as a CW3 in San Antonio, TX. During my years in the military, I was stationed in Ft. Bliss, TX; Germany (twice); Ft. Campbell, KY; Tripler AMC, Hawaii; Fitzsimmons AMC, CO (twice), Brooke AMC, Ft. Sam Houston, TX (twice) and the Pentagon, Washington, DC.
In 1966 I asked this beautiful and charming young girl, Becky, to go to the senior prom with me. Believe me it was as they say “love at first sight”. Two years later, after she graduated high school, the love of my life, Rebecca (Becky) A. Jones and I were married on July 20, 1968 in Littleton, CO. For 55 years we journeyed the highways and byways of life together. I do have to say that we had our share of bumps and pot holes along the way, but the road crew up above somehow always smoothed things over. In 1969 we had our first child, Janet Lynn (Dec’d), and in 1971 along came William (Willie) Michael.
During my life time, I was called many names other than Bill. Of those names some were good some bad and others down right ugly and vulgar. These are my most precious: son, brother, sweetheart, honey, husband, dad, grandpa, friend and I can’t forget grumpy.
I was preceded in death by our daughter, my wonderful parents, my parents-in-laws (Bernard B. Jones and Corine M. Jones) and many other relatives and friends. I am survived by my love of my life Becky, son Willie (Rita), three grandchildren, John, Camryn and Shelby, one step grandson Gabe (Abby), two brothers, Mike (Sharon) and Pat (Teri), several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
Despite my very thick crusty exterior, cutting and sarcastic remarks and stubbornness, I was loving, giving, forgiving (sometimes), a sentimentalist, romanticist, emotionalist, and perfectionist. Hard to believe and digest isn’t it?
I led a good life and had a peaceful death but the transition was a bitch. For the record, I did not lose my battle with cancer, for when I passed, the cancer died, so it was a draw.
