The Lord has called his humble and faithful servant Winona “Mimi” Pickel to join her family in heaven on November 19, 2018 at the age of 87. Her husband Kenneth Pickel precedes her in death. She is survived by 10 children, (David Pickel, Audrey & Richard Mylchreest, Dr. Barbara & Joseph Belcher, Randolph & Ginette Pickel, Alberton Pickel and Sandra Walker, Brian & Pam Pickel, Alysia Folsom & Michael, Timothy & Diane Pickel, Kelly Pickel, Lori & Timothy Adams),
26 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
Mimi’s love of life and passion for raising and caring for children allowed her to touch countless lives working at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church as the head of the nursery from 1984 until she retired in 2015. At the same time she also had many years of employment at Colonial Hills United Methodist Church in their Mother’s Day Out programs. Many families also employed her as a private sitter during evenings & weekends.
She always treated every child as if they were her own, her warm smile and contagious laughter filled every room she entered. The thought of being cared for at home by her granddaughter Jasmine Smith & surrounded by family filled Mimi’s heart with joy & contentment. Prior to her departure to Heaven Mimi was informed by her family of what an amazing job she did raising her kids, how much she was loved by all, and that it was ok to “Go Home” her smile & excitement were absolutely priceless!
Mimi will be sadly missed by all of those whose lives she touched and hearts she’s filled. The family would like to extend their greatest and warmest gratitude to everyone who helped care for Mimi.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on December 8, 2018 11am at Northwest Hills UMC.
Internment will be summer 2019 at Plainmont Cemetery, East Montpelier, VT.
The family wishes to thank Alamo Hospice & Loss of Life Advocates for their support and guidance for Mimi.
